A Turkish court has given a German teenager a two-and-a-half-year suspended prison term for sexually abusing a 13-year-old British girl while they were both on holiday near Antalya.

Marco Weiss, now 19, has already spent eight months in custody in a jail in the Mediterranean city of Antalya in 2007 on charges of sexually abusing a child, before he was released and returned to Germany.

The court said he will remain free but be monitored over the next 30 months and he will be required to serve his remaining prison term if he commits another a crime.

The incident took place in April 2007, in the resort of Side, near Antalya, where the two teenagers were holidaying with their families.

Weiss claimed the two became close and ended up in the girl’s hotel bedroom one night where they had physical contact but no intercourse. He also said the girl had lied about her age and said she was 15.

He was arrested the next day, after the mother of the girl filed a complaint against him to police.

There is no doubt that Marco is innocent. How should he know that Charlotte was lying about her age? The decision of the German prosecutors is much more important. Nobody believes the Turkish court which only would like to make forgotten the 247 days in prison. Blame on this Turkish court.
